About the Retreat

Samahita Yoga Retreats are for everyone, all ages and levels, sincerely looking to learn and build a stronger foundation for practice. For only a little extra money (compared to the Yoga Daily Program), you have a great opportunity to go deeper into the practice and put the entire practice into a larger context. It is the perfect balance between the Yoga Daily Program and one of our Centered Yoga courses. Although you have extra time with one teacher, there is still plenty of free time in the afternoons to relax, enjoy the beach and the quiet retreat environment.

Throughout the week you are working with one teacher, building on the different yogic practices each day, so that you leave with some essential groundwork, a more profound understanding and a solid practice to take home with you. Those with a pre-existing practice will expand on their knowledge and foundation, leaving with greater clarity and a more refined practice.

Each Samahita Yoga Retreat week consists of the following:

  • A full week to work with one of Centered Yoga's experienced teachers. All of our teachers have been trained extensively by the renowned Paul Dallaghan and O.P. Tiwariji.
  • Morning intention work, followed by breath work and pranayama from the Kaivalyadhama/O.P. Tiwariji tradition and asana/poses and vinyasa/movement with breath based on a liberal approach to the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition.
  • Modifications as needed for different asanas/poses (both seated poses and training poses). We teach students to use props in order to accommodate everyone -- all ages and levels of students, regardless of the limitation, are welcome and encouraged to join.
  • A chance for students either to begin to learn the Ashtanga Vinyasa system, or to improve on and expand their existing practice and experience. Again, all levels are welcome.
  • Restorative asana practice in the afternoon – a relaxing way to finish the day.
  • Extra time in the afternoon to workshop a specific aspect of the practice, answer questions and help students come to a greater understanding of Yoga in its entirety. This extra time is invaluable, as it puts the entire practice into a larger framework.

Although each week has all of the above listed offerings, there is a specific focus for each retreat, and they are taught by a particular teacher who will share their individual expertise and knowledge.

This Week's Focus: Strengthen & Balance

An asana is a pose that is both stable and comfortable. With inner and outer support and strength comes a space that is free, uplifted and light. Learn how the practice trains, fortifies, refines and balances the body and the nervous system so that we can eventually overcome any mental and physical limitation, transcending the body and mind.

About the Teacher

Rachel

RachelRachel has practiced and had interests in various styles of yoga since 1999, and felt that all of it led to a greater understanding of her current practice. She completed her Centered Yoga teachers training with Paul in 2005 and has returned regularly to SYT over the last 5 years.

Her main focus in teaching is to create an appropriate intelligent bridge to the dynamic form of Ashtanga, breaking it down so that each person is practicing to their own level and reaching their potential.

She has taught in London, and more recently in Sydney focussing on courses, workshops and Mysore classes. She uses her experience from her daily yoga practice, workshop intensives in yoga therapy, back bending and inversions combined with Thai massage experience for a holistic approach to teaching and when giving adjustments to share the joy of yoga.bio.

Amy Sharpe

Amy Sharp Amy completed her Centered Yoga teacher training in July 2010. As a resident of Koh Samui, Amy continued her studies under the tutelage of Paul Dallaghan and Elonne Stockton, growing as both a teacher and a student. She joined the teaching team in February 2011, which she combines with her role as Samahita Retreat Marketing Manager.

Amy studied acting and theatre in London and has been living in Thailand for seven years, working as a freelance writer for magazines, focused on wellness and travel. She has two young daughters, and lives her life immersed in raising children, writing and the biggest practice of all; learning how to live yoga, finding balance and joy through all of life's many adventures.

We only have two deluxe one bedroom suites located in our most private building closest to the sea. They have a private bedroom, living room, fully equipped kitchen, generous bathroom and an extra large balcony. Both suites offer a modern open living room with sofa bed, LCD TV, working desk and DVD/ iPod Stereo. They are perfect for a family or couple. The additional rate is a flat rate based on the room and is added on to the total rate package whether a single individual, couple or family.

Our guestrooms are set back just over 50 meters from the water to provide you with a private community and greater security. A selection of our rooms enjoy this spectacular sea view, while others enjoy the tropical gardens scene.
