Yoga and the Importance of Healthy Living
“Austerity means effort to control desire. It is chosen, not forced. Doing your duty is also tapas when you watch your attachments and self-interest and try to remove them.”

Yoga Retreat

Yoga and the Importance of Healthy Living

October 10 - 17, 2009 with Lorraine Taylor

About the Retreat

This retreat focuses on food and healthy living. By making simple changes to our diet, we will discover how this can dramatically improve our digestion and energy levels. We will look at what the yogic tradition says about food and how this can support our practice and our health.

According to ayurveda, the classical Indian health system, food is meditation. By exploring that idea and the system itself, we will discuss and reflect on how to develop supportive eating habits.

Mornings offer breath work and Mysore-style Ashtanga practice. Afternoon lectures are combined with soothing restorative yoga classes and lots of time for questions. In the evenings we will have kirtan, tratak, mantra, meditation, and movies. Throughout the retreat, there promises to be lots of 'food for thought,' and a practical healthy-cooking class or two ensures that you keep up the good work when you get home!

About the Teacher

Lorraine teaches full time at Samahita Retreat, and is a long term practitioner of yoga in many forms, including Ashtanga yoga. She is dedicated to the study and practice of Pranayama and Asana, and is a resident of Samui, with her husband and young son. She recently owned and ran the Yoga Café here on Koh Samui, and has many other wide and varied experiences. She brings a light sense of humor into her teaching.
