Yoga Shala

"Yoga shala," in Sanskrit, denotes the room or practice area where yogic practices take place. Many of the old yogic texts, in particular Hatha yoga ones, offer guidelines on how to design such a structure. Taking into account old wisdom and modern knowledge, we have built our shala. It is the central feature of Yoga Thailand and the hub of all activity.

We have over 150 square meters of practice space that can be opened up as one room or divided off into two or three rooms. The two main rooms are dedicated to the masters and influences behind us and our growth, both yogis from India and Thai Buddhist masters. Interaction with and respect for other approaches and philosophies is also present.

One end of the shala opens to the meditation garden, while the other end opens to the pool garden overlooking the beach. The space is light and airy, with big windows. The floor is made from bamboo hardwood, which is not only ideal for practice but also considered to be the most eco-friendly choice, as it is a highly renewable resource.

A variety of yoga props are available, including Iyengar-style rope harnesses from the ceiling and wall for use in therapeutic applications.

The yoga shala is also used for video screenings, lectures, and discussions.
