Yoga Retreat
Yoga from the Tradition: Asana, Pranayama, Meditation, Chanting and Philosophy
May 28 - June 4, 2011
with Elonne Stockton
About the Retreat
Elonne will help students develop and/or deepen their self-practice of yoga asana and breathwork - pranayama while they gain a clear idea of what yoga is in its entirety, where the practice of yoga comes from, and why we practice yoga to begin with.
This retreat is open to all levels of practitioners. It is for students who are either new to Yoga or who have been practicing; it is for any student interested in developing or going deeper into their practice and understanding of the practice.
In this retreat, through clear and understandable philosophical discussions and plenty of actual practice, we will go beyond the confines of individual techniques and theories to discover the essence of all our practices. Elonne will encourage personal exploration and introspection so that each student may come to their own discoveries and insight of his/her relationship to the practice. Elonne aims to give students a realistic and maintainable practice to take home with them, as well as to encourage students to gain their own unique understanding.
Our mornings will start with breathing exercises - pranayama, intention setting, Vedic chanting and asana practice (led asana and self practice classes). During the afternoon sessions, Elonne will facilitate discussions and also lead restorative asana classes.
Additionally, during the week there will be a boat trip, a few silent beach walks and evening Satsang, where we practice meditation techniques as well as share chanting and/or kirtan.
About the Teacher
Elonne has been a committed yoga practitioner and devotee since the early age of 14. She has lived and taught in the Bahamas, Canada, India, the United States, and Taiwan where she has taught asana, pranayama, and meditation at yoga studios, ashrams, resorts, schools, orphanages, hospitals, and clinics.
In 2006, Elonne moved to Asia, where she met her teachers, Paul Dallaghan, O.P. Tiwari, and Richard Freeman.
As Elonne's understanding of the practice grows, she feels more and more like a beginner, and she is excited to continue this journey. She feels blessed by the opportunity to teach at Samahita Retreat, and she is extremely grateful for the chance to help others while she continues her own studies. For more see her full bio.
