Pilates and Body Movement Retreat

Share your passion

June 23 - 30, 2012

with Mareile Paley

About the Retreat

Discover Pilates and other forms of Body Movement in this integrative retreat - the first of its kind in Asia. Led by Mareile Paley, Pilates instructor and founder of Pilates Retreat Asia we will focus on the principles of Pilates through daily Mat/props classes and workshops, while discovering other forms of movement (i.E. Nia, Zumba, Qi Gong... taught by participating instructors.)

Each day we will explore one of the Pilates principles (e.g. breathing, centering, concentration...), gradually increasing challenge and flow, building strength and learning how to integrate Pilates into other forms of body movement and into your daily life.

This retreat is open to students and instructors of all levels. Newcomers to Pilates will benefit from a personalized step-by-step introduction to the Pilates method, while more experienced students will get a chance to review their practice and work on more advanced exercises. Pilates is especially beneficial to practitioners of Yoga and throughout the retreat we will look into how Pilates can complement and strengthen your yoga practice.

We also warmly welcome instructors of Yoga, Nia, Dance, Zumba, Tai Chi, Qi Qong, Barre... bodyworkers of Rolfing, Massage, Feldenkrais... teachers of Ayurveda, Meditation, Nutrition... to join us and to share your passion and knowledge by teaching one of your signature classes or workshops to the group. These additional movement classes will help us see Pilates not as a singled out form of exercise, but as the lifestyle concept and holistic approach, originally intended by its creator, Joseph Pilates.

About the Teacher

Pilates retreats Koh Smaui, Thailand

Mareile Paley is a classically trained Pilates instructor, personal trainer and founder of Pilates Retreat Asia, bringing her love for Pilates, Yoga and a holistic approach to life all over the world. Leading and hosting retreats since 2009, her retreats have been featured in PilatesStyle and Asia Spa Magazine.

From early age, Mareile had a zeal for being active and trying new things. Ballet, Jazz dance, Judo, Tap dance, and Basketball filled up her busy childhood schedule. At age 20, she left her home in Germany to study Communication Design in New York, a career that she loves and actively pursues to this day. Believing that there is a deep connection between creativity and physical wellbeing, Mareile continued her sportive endeavors through Snowboarding, Kiteboarding, Yoga and finally Pilates. When she took her first lesson back in 2004, she immediately took to it and never looked back.

Her passion for the method motivated her to pursue it professionally and she earned her teaching certificate through Core Pilates, New York City in 2007. Since then she has practiced and taught Pilates all over the world, including New York, Hong Kong, Munich, Paris, Istanbul and even Khorog, a small town in the remote mountains of Tajikistan. She also had the privilege to work with some of the industry's great masters, such as Carolyne Anthony, Elizabeth Larkam and Tracey Mallett.

Based in Istanbul, Mareile continues to integrate her passions for travel, design and Pilates into her busy life as a wife, business owner and mother of two adorable boys.
