Richard Freeman has a wealth of knowledge through direct experience of dedicating his life to the practice of yoga. Known for both his depth and humor, this is a rare opportunity to spend two delightful weeks gaining greater understanding of practice and its philosophy, all at, what he calls, an idyllic location for it. We are both honored and thrilled to have Richard keep Yoga Thailand as his home in Asia. Richard will weave the explanation of the practice with philosophical texts to give us all an exhilarating practice and satsang of learning. From our experience, very few can do this with such poise and skill while the rest of us both thoroughly enjoy and grow.
This is a two-week program for those teaching already, those aspiring to teach and those who would just love to spend two weeks with an inspiring and uplifting teacher of yoga. It is open to all.
Richard Freeman has been a student of yoga since 1968. He has spent nearly nine years in Asia studying various traditions which he incorporates into the Ashtanga yoga practice as taught by his principal teacher, K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. Richard's background includes studying Sufism in Iran, Zen and Vipassana Buddhist practice, Bhakti and traditional Hatha yoga in India. Starting in 1974 he also began an in-depth study of Iyengar yoga, which eventually led him to Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. Richard is an avid student of both Western and Eastern philosophy, as well as Sanskrit. His ability to juxtapose various viewpoints, without losing the depth and integrity of each, has helped him develop a unique, metaphorical teaching style.
