Special Program
Ashtanga Mysore Yoga Retreat
June 14 - 21, 2008
June 28 - July 5, 2008
With Adarsh and Heleen Williams
About the Retreat
We have known Adarsh and Heleen for many years through our times in Mysore or spending time to be with our beloved Ammachi. Together they embody the spirit of great devotion and geniune love. We welcome them and their soon to be new first baby to Samahita Retreat in June 2008.
The Sustainable Self Practice
Join Adarsh and Heleen in an immersion into the classical method of Ashtanga Yoga. Traditionally yoga is thought of as a meditative practice and a way of life. By demystifying the core techniques of yoga, meditation, asana and pranayama become practical tools in our daily lives.
To make our Yoga sustainable it is important to observe natural cycles on and off the mat. During the retreat we will utilize techniques for developing our intuition in creating a sustainable practice that lasts a lifetime. This will increase our vital energy and compassion and it becomes a practice we are eager to do. We will increase our ability to observe our circumstances and adjust accordingly. We will attempt to cut through common confusions to get to the essence of a daily yoga practice.
As a "Mysore Style" retreat, participants will consult with instructors in developing their Ashtanga practice in a way that observes individual goals and abilities. You may expect to focus on a precise tutorial within the Ashtanga method and find a thoughtful progression through the series. Raw beginners are welcome and will practice side-by-side with experienced yogis in establishing and refining their self-guided yoga practice.
Heleen and Adarsh have a special interest in helping individuals develop their own instinct in their personal yoga practice. They have specialized in working with students in Mysore Style and one-to-one instruction and believe that a consistent personal practice, done with intelligence and devotion shows the way to meditation and yoga.
About Adarsh and Heleen
Heleen took her first yoga class in 1991 in her native country the Netherlands. This was to begin her ongoing practice of yoga. After pursuing a professional life in event management in Germany and London she decided to dedicate her time to practicing and teaching yoga. Heleen was initiated into Ashtanga by John Scott with whom she also studied "techniques in teaching". She has continued annual studies with Ashtanga master Sri K Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India since 2001.
Adarsh started a meditation practice as a teenager and took his first Yoga class in 1995. He has explored different styles of yoga, movement and body-mind awareness techniques. In 1998 he was introduced to Ashtanga - the same year he completed his certification in professional massage therapy. In 2001 Adarsh finally had the opportunity to travel to India where he returns frequently for study and pilgrimage. Adarsh is authorised by Sri K Pattabhi Jois at the AYRI, Mysore, India.
As individual instructors and as a team, Heleen and Adarsh have conducted classes and trainings throughout Europe and America. They have ongoing studies in yoga, sanskrit, and ayurveda. Presently they live, practice and teach daily classes in traditional Ashtanga Yoga in Mountain View, California.
